Trapezius muscle - a group of muscles forming a diamond-shaped structure at the back of the neck.

The trapezius muscle extends from the middle and upper back, upper shoulder girdle, along the back of the neck and to the base of the skull.
Trapezius muscle consists of upper, middle and lower fibers.

* The fibers of the upper muscle group pass through the upper shoulder girdle and then attach to the collarbone - forming the shoulder. Stabilize the neck, are responsible for the mobility of the shoulders, for the inclination of the neck and head to the shoulder, participates in the lifting of the limbs, shoulder blades and collarbone, help straighten the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

* The fibers of the middle muscle group run along the upper thoracic vertebrae (from the 1st to the 4th), then attached to the shoulder blades. Responsible for the mobility of the shoulder blades, pull and reduce the shoulder blades, pull them to the spine.

* Fibers of the lower muscle group run along the lower thoracic vertebrae (from the 5th to the 12th), and then attach to the spinous processes of the scapula. They are responsible for the mobility of the shoulder blades (they press and pull the shoulder blades down), participate in lowering the upper limbs, shoulder blades and collarbone.

The main function of the trapezius muscles is the movement, maintenance and stabilization of the spine and the shoulder blades. Trapezius muscles, allows a person to perform the following actions: raise and lower the clavicle / shrug, reduce and spread the shoulder blades; tilt and turn your head to raise and lower your hands.
This muscle tissue normally must be flat and elastic. In case of inflammation, stretching or spasm, the muscle cannot fully function.

We have huge number of blood vessels and nerve fibers in the neck. The correct balance of the trapezius muscle and neck muscles ensures free flow of blood (oxygen and nutrients / “miracle cocktail”) through the blood vessels, which is necessary for the brain, skin and facial tissues.

Also very often, there is a headache, discomfort in the back and neck. The development of osteochondrosis occurs, the muscles of the shoulders become stiff and their kneading gives painful sensations. On the back of the neck in the region of the seventh cervical vertebra and a hump can form.

The global problem of modern humanity is to tilt your head down when using the phone; office workers - working at a computer in the office or at home; drivers - sitting at the wheel of the car; tourists, travelers - with regular and long wearing heavy backpacks on their shoulders, bags on the same shoulder (one shoulder becomes higher than the other).
* Psycho-emotional factor / psychosomatics plays a huge role in the occurrence of trapezoid muscle spasm. In a person experiencing emotional stress, depression, in the first place, the trapezoidal muscles are always strained.
* Temperature factor. Hypothermia / low temperature climate can lead to severe spasms of the trapezius muscle, as well as to the inflammatory process - myositis. Unconsciously, a person, as it were, presses his shoulders to his ears / “shrinks” trying to warm up.
* Lack of essential stretching after strength training.

Measures to prevent spasm of trapezius muscles:
Correction of posture and getting rid of slouch.
Massage of the neck area, including self-massage.
Constant / regular trapezoid muscle relaxation techniques.
If a person has physical activity (sports / fitness), then after a workout, stretching is required for all muscle groups.
If the tense area is not relaxed or mobilized, tension / spasm will occur. In any case this must be avoided, it is necessary to relax the muscles so that the brain, skin, facial tissues can be washed with blood, therefore oxygen, nutrients / “miracle cocktail”. Muscles can restore elasticity and resilience.
