Neck Hump also known as accounting hump, climacteric hump, etc.
The Neck hump is a pathological growth / bulging in the neck-collar zone, which forms at the level of the seventh cervical vertebra.

There are myths and misconceptions about neck hump caused by and limited to followings!
• salt deposits
• extremely hardened fatty tissue / fat pillow
• it’s the problem of obesity
• the problem is exclusively for women
• hormonal deposition during menopause
• age defect or a sign of age
• transmitted genetically

Brilliant!laughing

In fact, the Neck hump have nothing to do with all of the above!

The Neck hump can appear either in a young slim girl or in a man. For example, a woman who is overweight or even in the menopause period doesn’t mean she has or will have a neck hump.

The root cause of the appearance of Neck hump is a consequence of a change in the dependent structures of the body. What does it mean? - This is a violation of the statics of the neck, as well as a violation of posture (stoop).

The human head weights about 4.5 to 5.5 kg and carried by a fragile neck. When you change the position of the neck to forward such as head extension (looking at the phone, sitting at the computer, reading, lying down, etc.), the head increases its weight with every degree of deviation from the vertical axis. The load on the C7 cervical vertebra is enormous which is around extra 3-4 kg. In order to keep such a non-physiological overwhelming weight, the body tries to compensate this extra load by strengthening the “weak spot” which is the neck. To enforce the weak spot, body uses the building material - connective tissue on the cervical vertebra area where the area between the cervical and thoracic spine (zone C7-see the image below).

As a result of the increased load, the connective tissue expands and creates a support that grows, hardens and ossifies (calcification) over the years... All these leads to limitation of the movement of the neck and a decrease in the amplitude of turns and tilts of the neck. Practically no physical activity in this area.

Also, spasmodic trapezius muscles, thoracic kyphosis, overstrained / bound chest, stoop adds fuel to the fire. In the chest area, the tense muscles contracts and pulls down the tissues of the anterior surface of the body and neck, which will result of a saggy skin on the entire front side of the body. The back is rounded, the head and neck are pulled forward (the front surface of the neck is extended, and the back is shortened), the shoulders are wrapped forward, the chest falls inside.

As a result of a violation of the static of the neck, the connective tissue that forms the Neck hump gradually squeezes the vertebral arteries that pass through the transverse holes of the vertebrae. Functions of providing oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the head and brain, blood supply gets obstructed and causes hypoxia. Similarly, due to the strong muscle spasms of the trapezius muscle, the blood vessels and nerve endings are clamps and slows down the blood circulation (delivery of nutrients to the facial tissues), Lymphostasis occurs / lymphatic outflow / lymph circulation worsens, swelling occurs.

As a result, swelling, bags under the eyes, wrinkles on the neck, nasolabial, indistinct facial contours, sagging of tissues of the lower third of the face - second chin, flakes, etc. Sagging platysma pulls down the corners of the lips, cheeks and chin line.

If a person is gaining weight or already obese, the fat respectively distributed on the surface of the connective hump tissue which visually increases the size of neck hump. This explains the fact that the neck hump are considered only as a collection of hardened fat. Yes, there is fat, but it is located on the surface of the connective tissue. It also causes destructive / congestion - there is swelling in this area, because it happens because of Lymphostasis / delayed lymphatic fluid.

So, from all of the above... What is Neck Hump?

The Neck hump are an accumulation of connective tissue, fat and lymphatic fluid at the level of the seventh cervical vertebra.
Neck hump may be different in size: with years, depending on the time spent on the body, it increases in size and becomes more solid.
Another factor that influences the formation of the neck hump is the mouth breathing habit. For example, if a child, due to inflamed adenoids, breathes through his mouth, leads to an incorrect position of the lower jaw. The body is forced to adapt to uncomfortable conditions and over the years, the neck spontaneously pushes forward, thereby expanding the larynx and facilitating breathing. In this case, you need to work not only with the neck and spasmodic muscles, but also with the bones of the skull (remove intraosseous and interosseous tensions), with ethmoid bone, which is located deep in the skull, to open / ease nasal breathing, with the setting of the lower jaw in the correct position.
Also, the formation of the neck hump is influenced by emotional factors: stress, emotional overload, physical overload and injuries.

Symptoms of Neck hump:

  • headaches, dizziness
  • pressure surges, increased intracranial pressure
  • neck crunch while turning head
  • aching pain in the shoulders, neck, neck, spine
  • discomfort: numbness, tingling, burning
  • numbness of the upper limbs / arms
  • constant weakness, lethargy
  • memory impairment
  • trouble sleeping

You need to get rid of neck hump, it is easier to do it in the early stages.

First of all, you need to remove the first cause of Neck hump. It requires work with the neck and posture! It makes no sense to deal with the consequences, it is necessary to remove the root of the problem, then the body will have no reason and no reason to support and continue to strengthen this structure. The Neck Hump over time, will begin to fade.
For example: pumping out fat from the Neck hump (surgically) will not bring the desired effect, if the main reason is not removed, in time, everything will return “to normal”.
The sooner you start working with static neck and posture, the faster you will get rid of neck hump!

Preventive measures against Neck hump:
1. Work on the posture - back straight, shoulders straightened / turned and relaxed down. Shoulder blades pressed to the spine, chin pointing forward, crown stretches up.
2. Work on the static of the neck - the auricle should be in line with the straightened shoulders.
3. Work with a neck (removal of clips, lengthening / traction of a neck);
4. Deep massage of the neck-collar zone (self-massage, including), to relieve tension from the muscles of the neck-collar zone, normalize blood circulation and lymph circulation
5. Can massage with vacuum cans on the neck-collar zone
6. Daily cushion: under the shoulder blades and under the lower back (described earlier by posts) relieving spasms of the back muscles / relieving tension in the lower back, stretching the muscles of the thoracic region
7. Removing spasms of the shoulder girdle;
8. When office / sedentary work. workplace equipment / computer screen - at eye level
9. Exercise (previously, after consulting a doctor) It is important to stimulate the blood circulation process.
10. Proper nutrition.

The process of getting rid of Neck hump is a long one, be patient. Only daily work will give an excellent result, there will be no sense from one-time lessons, you need to do it regularly.
The basis of youth and beauty is the occipital region and the neck-collar zone, which is why it is so important to monitor this area and prevent these issues.
